Founded in 1999, San Rafael, CA based In Ticketing continues to revolutionize the ticketing business as we know it. In Ticketing has effectively changed the landscape by providing an ethically conscious, yet economical option to music promoters and fans. As a tech-savvy resource for the little guy to work on par with the big boys, In Ticketing provides a professional and friendly alternative.
While attending Georgia Tech together, In Ticketing CEO & founder Steve Weisz and CTO & co-founder Marc Urbaitel were both die-hard music fans (and still are to this day). After earning his degree in Industrial Design, Steve went on to found and operate web development & hosting firms to service entertainment companies and independent record labels in Atlanta and Los Angeles. Marc graduated Georgia Tech with a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering and developed e-commerce software for retail applications, programmed online tools for banks and law offices, designed databases for supply chain management, and worked under the Georgia Tech Research Institute on anti-missile defense software for aircraft carriers.
What would eventually become In Ticketing began as an idea germinating between friends in 1995. Steve and Marc had often pondered a different way to do business, remedies for the shortcomings of the ticketing industry. Steve: "I kept thinking there's got to be a better way, there's got to be a win-win-win situation: win for the artists, win for the fans and win for the ticketing company."
This idea got off the ground in 1999 when Steve and Marc were enlisted to help set up a ticketing site for a Grateful Dead tour documentary premier at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco. Beginning the business with a mere $195 to license the name 420 Tickets, the event sold $20,000 worth of tickets within only 5 days. 420 Tickets ran its course (having been built for the sole purpose of the dead tour premiere) and thus InHouse Ticketing was created in February 2001. InHouse Ticketing was a way to reach out to fellow fans and give back. A ticketing agency with humanity - for music fans, by music fans.
Beginning with a limited range of web-hosting and ticketing services to independent promoters, In Ticketing's passion for new and up to date technology served to quickly expand into services including privately branded fan club ticketing, venue and box-office management services. In Ticketing went on to introduce innovations like print-from-home tickets, paperless will-call, wireless handheld scanning for tickets at events and an access control system that allows event organizers to manage their on-site resources. "We work within Ticketmaster's guidelines to sell tickets at their venues, but we help promote your band and get your business off the ground" says Steve. In Ticketing continues to diversify, working with all genres of music and expanding into ticketing for theatrical shows, all while charging typically half the fees of competing ticketing agencies.
A key facet of In Ticketing business is promoting conscious consumerism. In Ticketing's "tree per ticket" program (the first of its kind) has resulted in the planting of hundreds of thousands of trees since its inception and led to Steve being named on the advisory board for Trees for the Future 501(c). For Weisz, the message is simple. "Anything we do we want to be in the highest good for everybody." Unlike mega-ticket corporations of the past, In Ticketing realizes its effect with every business decision. In Ticketing uses recycled and hemp fiber, chlorine-free products, flax residue, and soy-based ink for ticket printing. Even In Ticketing's day-to-day business functions are well thought out, such as In Ticketing vehicles which are bio-diesels and a hybrid.
With conscious and ethical business practices, as well as an undying love for music, In Ticketing sets an example for the world, creating a business model that is profitable, environmentally friendly and built to serve the musician and consumer.
